Artist of the Day = Jeff Koons
He’s from Pensyllvania, and it gets crazy from here. Some think he’s a genius, others think he’s nothing special. But his presence, much like his art, is without doubt monumental. Unlike a few other AOTDs, he focuses on art installations and paintings. Whether they’re in a gallery, or in the middle of a park, he creates art and not much else. He’s been around for a while, and he’s done some interesting work that focuses on popular culture, see his Michael Jackson and Bubbles pieces if you don’t believe it (you don’t get more pop the the king of pop). What’s the best thing about his work? The fact that he uses inflatable balloon figures, like puppies!

Where have all the past promised technologies gone? Why can’t I understand my dog with a pair of headphones? Dr. Ferrell examines here.
Shocking News! The Past IS The Future
So apparently you can’t look in any direction without seeing news about G-shocks by Casio. Even we’ve covered them before, but considering their omnipresence on the internet we can’t help but give them a bit more respect. In case you weren’t around back in the day, Casio had wildly popular bursts in the 90s and even 80s. Now it seems that the craze has gotten even, well, crazier. With collaborations from everyone in the business, g-shocks aren’t going anywhere, and they won’t stop until they hit a wrist near you.
Here are just some of the models and collaborations that are burning up the internet…
Hellz x Baby-G
DGK Skateboards x GX56

And they go on! We’ll post more if you’re interested!

Artist of the Day = Animated Short Filmers
Rather than pick some of the very talented individuals that dedicate themselves to short films and never get any credit, we at YGHA choose to honor the entire profession. The many artists, directors, editors, etc… that choose to work on animated short films are rarely acknowledged; you don’t see them on talkshows, they don’t end up in newspapers, who knows if even their own families are aware of them (of course they are they’re awesome). Their work is often jaw-dropping, and while animated movies often get their deserved praise, Pixar is only the beginning of an iceberg of good work. And because they are so awesome, we choose to credit them here. Some recent Oscar nominees include Nicky Phellan and Darragh O’Connell, Javier Recio Garcia, and Les Gobelins L’Ecole de L’Image. Check out some of their work posted below, and stare in awe at the work that is animated short film.
Stormtroop Some Happiness
The TK Project was created to help a charity event from The 501st Legion along with the Make a Wish Foundation. Just when you thought it doesn’t get as cool as Darth Vader Helmets, here come the Stormtrooper helmets. These helmets, created by various artists, are being auctioned off all for a good cause. When art meets good will, we see awesomeness.
The 501st Legion “… is an all-volunteer organization formed for the express purpose of bringing together costume enthusiasts under a collective identity within which to operate. The Legion seeks to promote interest in Star Wars through the building and wearing of quality costumes, and to facilitate the use of these costumes for Star Wars-related events as well as contributions to the local community through costumed charity and volunteer work…”
Artist of the Day = Takashi Murakami
Straight out of Japan, this guy can do it all and does. He mixes Western and Eastern styles in an art style he STARTED called Superflat. A lot of the stuff looks like it’s straight from a Japanese anime or manga comic strip, but make no mistake it’s something entirely unique. It can look like some pretty psychedelic stuff, and at times child-like/cartoony, but that’s exactly what makes it so powerfully new. You can group him in with previous AOTD in his style and mediums, but in many ways he’s more like their mentor.
Besides paintings, Murakami has made his name largely through his impact on the fashion industry. If you look enough, you’ll be able to find everything from t-shirts to watches with his distinctive style, but never is it cheap (ask Louis Vuitton, who he’s done a collaboration with). Toys/statues/figurines are also common staples of this generation of artist, and Murakami is no exception. And if you need any more proof of influence, this guy even designed one of Kanye West’s album covers (anybody who influences the mega trendsetters is practically from the future).
